Leicestershire batsman James Taylor has been named as captain for the England Lions’ upcoming tour match Sri Lanka ‘A’ in Scarborough.

The Lions face the touring side in a four day match at Scarborough beginning on 2nd August and it will be Taylor’s first experience of captaincy at international level after some fine displays while skippering his county. Those following the England cricket betting may want to keep an eye on his progress.

The 12 man squad includes five new faces with Joe Root, Alex hales, Scott Borthwick, Stuart Meaker and Jack Brooks all set to make their debuts for the side. However there are a number of experienced faces including Ravi Bopara, Steven Finn and Chris Woakes who have all previously represented the full England side.

The Lions side is seen as the breeding ground for future test players and chief selector Geoff Miller believes it is the ideal opportunity for a number of players to stake their claim for a spot in the full side. Those who bet on Test cricket will know this.

“The England Lions series against Sri Lanka A is an important opportunity for those younger players to gain valuable experience against international opposition and push for further involvement in England programmes this winter,” national selector Geoff Miller said.

The squad also includes the likes of Craig Kieswetter, Jade Derbach and Samit Patel all of whom represented England in the recent one day series with the Sri Lankans and will be looking for a strong performance as they look to push for a place in the one day series with India.
