Dominic Cork: At least 5 will withdraw from test series

Dominic Cork revealed that at least 5 England players are planning to pull out of the test series with India. SkySports reports that the ECB has received the security report and have decided it is safe to play in the test series but have left it up to individual players to decide. However, former Lancashire bowler Dominic Cork told Radio 5 Live “I know at least five who will turn their backs.”

“Those I’ve spoken to are traumatised. What they saw on television was 10 times worse than what was shown here. If one doesn’t go, they all shouldn’t go. They make a stand and say ‘it’s not safe for us to be there’.

“I am not sure about the captain (Kevin Pietersen). I know of certain players who are going to put their families first. I’ve spoken to players and they are very upset and feel they wouldn’t be able to go out and play cricket in India.

“What is the point of England taking a diluted squad? You’re going to India in their backyard. You have a big series against West Indies, and then Australia. It’s not very good preparation. The guys will not be focused.”

A decision on whether the players will tour will be decided within the week before a test team is named. If England send out a diluted team it could cause problems with the BCCI. When the Sri Lanka said that they would send a weakened team to tour England, the ECB and Sky sports (TV broadcasters), were understandably unhappy. If this is what the England team will do, the BCCI will be unhappyand the test series is unlikely to be as competitive.

Ex-players and pundits have spoken out about the tour with Geoffry Boycott today questionning the “moral judgment” of the ECB in sending the players to India.
What are your thoughts on Dominic Cork’s comments, who should be on stand by to replace any withdrawals?
