Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar is set to be rested for the first 3 matches in the ODI series with England. The Indian batsman, who recently became the highest run scorer In test cricket has taken the decision to rest following the series with Australia. The “little master” has recently struggled for form, particularly in ODI matches. He has hoped that a rest will allow him to recharge his batteries and come back fresh for the 4th ODI.  He has not played a ODI match since March, in an away series against Australia.

The highest ODI run-scorer’s absence is a huge blow for Dhoni’s side who are looking to overtake England in the ODI rankings. Tendulkar, 35, will be replaced in the team by uncapped Murali Vijay. Despite featuring in 417 ODI matches, his priority has always been the longer format, where he has been the most prolific. In the last couple of years he has pulled out of three ODI series to nurse injuries and stay fresh for the Test matches.

His 42 ODI centuries indicate just how big a blow this is for India, as he is a reliable batsman in the top-middle order. He can hold an innings together and allow the big hitters, like Dhoni and Yuvraj, to up the run rate. He himself is able to play the big shots but these have become less frequent as he has gotten older. In his absence Yusuf Pathan or Suresh Raina will hope to take up his responsibilities.
