Australia leave out Symonds for Ashes

Australia sprung a surprise in their Ashes team selection by deciding to leave out Andrew Symonds. Symonds is left out of an otherwise full strength Australian Test side that offered few other surprises. The squad has rewarded those who impressed in the test series with South Africa. While stars of the 2006 Ashes whitewash, Stuart Clarke and Brett Lee are recalled after recovering from injury. Hauritz, as expected is named as the sole specialist spinner. (more…)

In-form England must wish that Ashes started tomorrow

As much as beating the West Indies at home in May isn’t exactly the biggest of achievements, England should be proud of their efforts this series.

Andrew Strauss’ men wrapped up a 2-0 series victory yesterday after bowling the tourists out for 176 in Durham. It meant that the second and final test was comfortably won by an innings and 83 runs to leave the England team in good spirits at the start of this very busy summer. (more…)

Rusty Shah losing grip on England position as un-orthodox Morgan continues to excel

Eoin-Morgan_65292sWhen signing up for the IPL Owais Shah never expected the turn of events that have occurred since. He failed to earn a single appearance in the IPL, has seen Bopara take his place at 3 and poor form on his return has seen his future in the ODIs take a blow after consecutive poor innings. He has arrived back from the IPL £100,000 to the better, but cricketing wise it has all gone wrong for Owais Shah. (more…)

Middlesex to play Rajasthan in the British Asia cup

Rajasthan Royals and Middlesex will face off for the British Asia cup on July 6 at Lords. The English domestic champion will face the IPL 2008 winner Rajasthan royals in the first of the annual charity series. This match will be a one match face off with a best of three match series from next year. A portion of the proceeds will go to the British Asian Trust. (more…)

Chris Gayle launches Strauss outburst

Ahead of the Second Test at the Riverside, Chris Gayle launched an attack on England Captain Andrew Strauss over comments made about Gayle’s late arrival. In an interview with the Guardian, he also said that he won’t be too sad if Test cricket died out and he is looking to step down as West Indies captain. (more…)

Collingwood confirmed as Twenty20 captain

Paul Collingwood has been named as England’s Twenty20 captain for the Twenty20 World Cup. He will take charge of a side with uncapped Eion Morgan and Graham Napier, while Key and Foster return to the international fold. There were few surprises in this squad announcement with the selectors combining international experience with twenty20 specialists. (more…)
